Farmer Producer Organizations

Various development agencies have been working across the country to set up and support women-led Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) engaged in the production and supply of nutritious food to the markets. The agencies not only provide financial resources but also develop forward market linkages to deliver end-to-end solutions for developing sustainable supply chains, which have the capacity to nearly double the household income and contribute towards food & nutrition security.

To help these agencies better support the development of FPOs where women play a direct role in the production, supply, marketing, and consumption of nutri-dense food crops, fruits, vegetables, dairy, and related end-products, Anuvaad is mapping the relevant entrepreneurship ecosystem. Our process involves analyzing nationwide case studies on women-led FPOs that are engaged in the production of nutri-dense food; developing a strategic framework for the promotion of women-lead FPOs; and providing evidence-informed guidance for the incubation of such FPOs, as exemplar models for achieving food security, women empowerment, agri-livelihoods, and sustainable development.
